Auto Insurance Companies

Auto insurance companies offer many different types of insurance for your personal or business vehicles. In general an auto insurance policy is made up of several different insurance packages aimed at providing you with the best protection for your autos.

Most good auto insurance companies offer a single policy made up of six different types of auto insurance coverage for a variety of insurance needs. This article examines the basic types of auto insurance that you'll find in most auto insurance policies. However, you should always make sure that you read through your own policy and understand what damages you are covered for under its terms.

1. Bodily injury liability coverage is offered by most auto insurance companies. A bodily injury policy pays for the medical and other expenses of somebody injured or killed in an accident when you are to blame.

2. Property damage liability is also offered by most auto insurance companies. Property damage liability will help you to pay for any damages you cause to property in a car accident. So it will pay for the other driver or driver's car repairs or replacement. It will also pay for repairs to any property you hit.

3. Collision coverage helps pay for any damage that your car sustains in an accident with other vehicles or objects. Collision coverage may be offered as part of a typical auto insurance policy by most auto insurers. Some auto insurance companies offer collision coverage as an optional extra.

4. Comprehensive coverage -- This covers damage to your car that results from something other than a collision with another vehicle. As examples, damages caused by vandals or a rock hitting your car. It also includes coverage for theft and is offered by most auto insurance companies

5. Medical payments coverage is offered by most auto insurance companies as part of a standard package. This kind of coverage will help you to pay for medical and/or funeral expenses for you and your family or any passengers that may have been in your car at the time of an accident, even if it was your fault. If a car hits you while out walking your expenses will also be covered.

6. Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist will help you to pay for expenses if you are injured or your car is damaged by a driver who has no insurance or inadequate insurance cover. It is estimated that in some states more than 12% of drivers have no insurance coverage or have insufficient coverage. Most auto insurance companies offer this kind of coverage as a standard.
